Pycnogenol consists of bioflavonoids, known as proanthocyanidin, plus a myriad of other components. Pycnogenol can help to protect the body against free radical attack. If these free radicals go unchecked, they can result in damage to body tissues. By taking adequate amounts of antioxidants, the body can be protected against blood vessel damage, by improving capillary resistance. This means the body can become more resistant to such conditions as varicose veins.
