EchinaceaEchinacea was traditionally used by North American Indians as a remedy for snake bite. Today, the well researched natural antibiotic properties of Echinacea make it a popular herb of choice to help strengthen the immune system against seasonal infections. Active Botanicals Echinacea contains only the superior Echinacea purpurea, which is standardised to phenolics; 4% and alkamides; 4mg/g, and which comes from the roots and tops of organically grown herb.
Research has shown that it is the high level of these two constituents in Echinacea purpurea that confer Echinacea with its therapeutic effects. Research has demonstrated the anti-inflammatory properties of Echinacea purpurea, while it has also been seen to have a mild cortisone-like effect in the body. Echinacea has been shown to exert many 'non specific' effects on the immune system. It can help to defend against viruses and other micro-organisms by stimulating the body's own defence system. Echinacea purpurea is also anti-viral and antibacterial, it has been demonstrated to have an inhibitory effect on the Influenza and Herpes virus and an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus.
