Hawthorn has been demonstrated to dilate blood vessels and this may result in increased coronary circulation which may contribute to maintaining normal blood pressure levels.

Hawthorn may have a further cardio-protective effect that becomes pronounced after prolonged use. Studies suggest this may involve beneficial effects on blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
