Psyllium is an excellent source of soluble fibre that can have a lubricating effect on the intestinal tract. 

When used on an ongoing basis, Psyllium can enhance the healthy functioning of the entire digestive tract. Psyllium coats and soothes the mucous membranes of the digestive tract.

Psyllium is, therefore, beneficial to all inflammatory disorders of the digestive system. It is recommended for such conditions as ulcers, diarrhoea, and constipation. Psyllium encourages natural muscular action in the bowel, regulating peristalsis.

Active Botanicals Psyllium husk is in a powder form for ease of dosage variation. The husks have been separated from the seeds and are present as pure husk. The husk supplies fibre that is not digested by the body, but that can absorb large quantities of liquid and form a gel. Directions for Use

• Adults - Take 5 grams (one 5ml spoonful) once or twice a day, mixed with a glass of water.
• Children (8 - 12) - Half adult dose, on advice.
• Low allergy formulation.
• No added sugar, wheat, salt, corn, milk, yeast, glutens, artificial colouring, flavouring or preservatives.

Indications for Use
Because Psyllium is a rich source of soluble fibre, it is suited to such conditions as colitis and diverticulitis, and is an excellent colon cleanser as it creates bulk in the system. It may, thus, help with constipation, when taken with adequate quantities of water. As a soluble fibre, Psyllium also has a role in the maintenance of healthy blood vessels, as it helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Used in conjunction with good dietary habits it may aid in the prevention of elevated blood cholesterol levels.

Contraindications
Not to be used in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus or during pregnancy unless under the supervision of a qualified practitioner.
